2019 Jeep Compass Radio Nightmare

My 2019 Jeep Compass radio totally died.yeah, no power, no music, just the CD player kinda worked.

I checked and the common issue is a loose module on the circuit board.

So, I watched some YT videos and tried to fix it myself with a heat gun.

It actually worked for about 3 minutes, then died again.

I tried reheating it, but this time, the module shifted, and when I plugged it back in, a different spot on the board totally shorted out and burned.

My son bought a replacement radio for me (same model, from a Jeep Wrangler) off Marketplace

But when he installed it, nothing. No power, no display. Even weirder, the dash lights went crazy and flickered madly. The car would start for two seconds, then die.

I don't know what I should do anymore, what's the next move here? Thanks for any ideas!

I think two things are most probably involved here, its either the replacement radio is not compatible, or it's bricked and messing with the CAN bus, I'm not the most knowledgeable but unplug it, clear codes if you can, and see if it goes back to normal, then after that, either get the exact match radio for your VIN or go aftermarket with a proper harness

Yep, you're right, could be a CAN thing or the software's acting up. Trying it with the thing unplugged should tell us for sure

It seems like the Wrangler radio won't just plug-and-play in a Compass since they have different security features and CAN bus systems. You'll need to either get a replacement that's coded specifically for the Compass or have a professional reprogram the unit for you.
